How can you sum up a life in a few sentences? Just like anyone else, there has been as much serendipity as planning, as many mistakes as successes, and too many "what ifs?' to mention. I feel as if I was launched into this world and given an ethereal toolkit, the nature, and purpose of which would only be obvious when I met some challenge along the way. And, fortunately, or unfortunately, I met many challenges, so that toolkit has been well-used and added to. Most importantly, I have come to truly value the wisdom of the gift and the generosity of the Love that it is wrapped in.
In midlife, a beloved spiritual Teacher asked me: “How can the Lord be your shepherd if you will not be the lamb?" That shifted my focus inwards, not to religion, but to that which is greater within myself and others. With some trepidation, that is what I am sharing with you in these journals of inspired writing.
I truly hope that, should you read these journals, you will not only benefit from the Light within them, but they will illuminate your own inner Light and light your way forward. After all, in the words of my inspirer: "Words can be vessels for the Light, and they can be the greatest saboteurs of the Light also. They can open the doors to peace and Love as surely as they can slam those doors shut and leave the listener shivering in their icy wake."
The Library of Lives
This was the gift of the first lockdown. It is a verbatim account of my daily meditations having given myself the task of recording what I see, feel and hear without self-censorship either of my struggles, or the words themselves. Not always comfortable, but always moving and effective in changing my mood for the remainder of the day. It was not until I reviewed the material later that I appreciated its beauty and relevance and so decided to publish it,
The imagery is entirely personal and provides a container for the inspirations that follow. If I were a fisherman, or an astronaut, the environment would be different, but the spiritual components would be the same. It is not a novel with a beginning, middle and end, it is intended to be picked up, picked through, used for inspiration or enquiry and as a stepping stone for others. If nothing else, it might provide you with a vocabulary to describe the indescribable, or the infinitesimal, feelings that accompany spiritual development.
The inspirations that fill The Library of Lives address beautifully and succinctly the questions on the lips of most spiritual travellers; soul, karma, unworthiness, disbelief, humanity, past lives, purpose, and the interconnectedness of all things. The Children of Light, or Indigo children feature as does The Christos Light which is the healing Light of this new Age, the Age of Aquarius, the Golden Age.
I see these volumes more as a smorgasbord than a set meal. Take what is useful for you and leave the rest. You may find, as I have done, that when you return, there is meaning and Light captured here that was not apparent on your first read through. Timing, it appears, is everything.
Lost & found & lost again
Is my first publication, it charts my journey to the Library of Lives through a rather sparse, lonely and uncomfortable childhood, an accelerated launch into adulthood and a varied professional career.
It attempts to weave my experiences, so common to many, into a tapestry of spiritual Teachings in the hope that I, and other readers, might gain a better understanding of why we end up in the situations that we do, or make the life choices that cause us, or others, suffering.
It is written with the benefit of hindsight, so it is the antithesis of a self-congratulatory memoir. It starts with the scything criticism of my mother and ends up with gratitude, for her and the lessons' life has taught me. Spiritual components including; death, freewill, past lives and karma are explored because they have been my stepping stones to gratitude.
That every person is part of a greater soul that contains all past lives and future incarnations. In every life an aspect of that soul chooses a personality, country, race, gender, and family to be born into and comes bearing a purpose, be it great or small, long or short. At birth the memory of life in Spirit is removed so that the incarnated soul is free to make their mistakes and to learn from experience. It is the learning that is important to the soul. After the life is completed, all that experience and learning is shared and the purpose reviewed. If Karma has been accrued, or if the purpose is still relevant, then another aspect of that soul will incarnate.
It is an individual and collective spiral of growth, development, and self forgiveness a field of Love which itself is governed by Universal, or Natural, Law. There is nothing or no-one that is unacceptable to this field of Love, although people spend whole lifetimes believing themselves to be unloveable or unworthy. Once in Spirit, there is constant guidance and support as souls review the lives they have just completed.
One of the first actions on returning to the Spirit realm is this review, and there is something called the Akashic which souls visit (metaphorically in their thoughts) to revisit the life just past, like watching a cinema screen. But this review is holistic, so it is seen in the round, all the causes and effects are seen for the first time so that the learning can be extracted without judgement or blame. I choose the Library of Lives as the location for this book, as that represents the Akashic.
My encouragement to others.
When I started writing this journal in 2020 I had no expectations and no end product in mind. It was simply a matter of self-discipline and exploration. Although I know that most writers would edit out the boring, repetitive paragraphs, I felt that those starting their own journal would benefit from reading about the uncertainty, the self-doubt, and the missteps. I have learnt that one insight does not make for enlightenment. In fact, I am not sure one lifetime does!
I have come to realise that it is the small, repetitive, steps that embed the more profound realisations about the true nature of life and soul. And, almost because they are so simple, they seem so difficult to grasp in today's world where soul and purpose seem to have been all but forgotten.
In the words of the 'Librarian' …
‘People are always connecting to some device or another or to the internet and appear to have more knowledge about the wider world than ever before, but what are they connecting to? Is it their soul, their inner guidance? Is meditation now one App among many rather than an intimate process, an inner calling to calm?’
